Transcribed from the parish registers held at the Dorset History Centre in
Dorchester and donated to the Dorset OPC Project by Kim Parker.
TRANSCRIBER'S NOTE: Up until 1752, England used the Julian calendar, with the official start of the year being Lady Day (25 th March). The Gregorian calendar was introduced into England in 1752, so that with the result that 31st December 1751 was followed by 1st January 1752. In addition, 11 days were lost during 1751 in order to bring the country into line with most of the Continent of Europe, so that 2nd September 1752 was followed by 14th September 1752. In the transcript, dates between 1 st January and 24 th March inclusive are shown with two years: the year to the left of the forward slash [/] is the year as per the Julian calendar, while that after it is the year as per the Georgian calendar. Researchers may therefore choose whether they wish to use the Julian or Georgian date.
