Sub Division Meeting - First Meeting 16th March 1769

[Note:- Minutes of their first Meeting are a compilation of the various parish and tything lists submitted As they contain no names and are extensive I have not transcribed them but they are available on ancestry.com to view for members ----(Images 68 & 69). At the end of the minutes there is a statement to appoint the next Meeting for the Sub Division to be held at the 'Antelope' in Dorchester on Thursday the 13th Day of April 1769.]

Sub Division Meeting - 13th April 1769----(Image 69)

At a Meeting of His Majesty's Deputy Lieutenants of the County of Dorset and Justices of the peace of the same County held at the house known by the sign the 'Antelope' in Dorchester in the said County for the Subdivision of Dorchester on Thursday the 13th April 1769 (being the second meeting held in and for the said sub division pursuant the the order of the General Meeting held the 25th day of October last) for the carrying into execution the Laws now in force relating to the raising and training the Militia in that part of Great Britain called England.

WE thinking it convenient and necessary to add together the lists of several parishes, tything's and places contained in their respective districts in the said sub division in the same manner as at the last Ballot in and for this sub division and it appearing unto us that the several persons who are hereunder mentioned have been legally discharged from the Dorsetshire Regiment of Militia for just causes are entitled to their discharges from serving in the Militia men in the said Regiment by their terms of three years being expired therefore pursuant to the power vested in us by Law We do hereby confirm the discharges of all and every such men from serving in the said Militia and instead of the men so legally discharged and of those who have occasioned vacancies by death or otherwise since the last Ballot belonging to the subdivision have this day chosen by lot the several persons likewise hereafter specified to supply such vacancies according to the number of vacancies in each district Vizt:-

The several Tything men of Charminster, Winterbourne St Martin, Bradford Peverell & Muckleford, Bockhampton and Stinsford, Shatton, Colliton Row, Grimstone, Forestone and Froom Whitfield in the hundred of St George having this day appeared before us, pursuant to our summons to show cause why the penalties of the Law should not be inflicted against them for their not returning in a List of Persons liable to serve in the Militia within their several & respective tythings at a former meeting for this purpose held, they now in their defence have severally made oath that they never received any orders or directions from the Chief Constable of the Hundred aforesaid or any other person whatsoever, and the Chief Constable likewise appearing before us to answer the above charge in his defence has likewise made oath that he hath not received any orders or directions from his Majesty's Deputy Lieutenants or Justices of the peace for the above purpose, Therefore we hereby dismiss and severally acquit them from the penalties of the Law pursuant to the power vested in us by Law

And also dismiss the tythingman of the tything of Wimborne St Martin in the hundred of Eggerton and against him of any penalty he having made appearance before us on oath of his having willfully acted in disobedience to any orders or directions received from us.

We allow and approve of the above proceedings and hereby appoint the next Meeting to be held within this subdivision for the enrolling of men this day balloted at the 'Antelope Inn' in Dorchester aforesaid on Saturday 29th day of this April

NOTE:- Sub Division of WIMBORNE held at the Crown in Wimborne on Monday 10th day of April 1769

The following person who had recently moved to live in Wimborne from Dorchester were discharged from the Militia as being incapable of service at the above meeting which dealt with the Wimborne Subdivison rather than Dorchester Subdivision.
