These are some of the cards exchanged between Percy and his family in 1917 when he was at Eppes in France. The first two were purchased in Paris and are hand embroidered. The first shows the badge of the Royal Engineers, his regiment. The second contains real flowers. Many others sent directly to Emily perished in a fire at her eldest sons premises many years later, these survived because they were sent to his sister-in-law Minnie Amelia Christopher with the words 'From Percy' on the back. That far right was actually sent to Percy at the front in the first week of March 1917 and states on the back "From Chris to dear daddy A Happy Birthday". His son Christopher McNally was then 3 years and 10 months old and the birthday was actually Emily's on 12th March. The hand embroidered Card below was also sent to Minnie Amelia Christopher and shows the colours of the flags of the Allied Forces. Royal Engineers - First World War It's not known where the first picture was taken but it dates to 1916 and shows Percy Nicholas McNally (1885-1967) seated front right. The second picture was taken in London at a reunion after the end of the war circa 1920. Percy is in the middle row 3rd form the right. If anybody knows the names of any of the other Soldiers please make contact using the email address on the front page of the website. |
