Parish of Marnhull Churches, Schools & Views Twenty one photographs to download including one large one of children outside the school circa 1910. A view of the church of St Gregory from the south east, with the war memorial just in the picture.	St Gregory from the south west, taken not far from the school.

Two views taken into the sun. Left, shows the east end and is taken from near the Crown Inn, the large building on the left was the Rectory, it has a 14th century cellar but the main part dates from around 1695, it was rebuilt 1780-90 and the top floor was added later. The right hand photo is taken from the north, in the burial ground.

A view of the south porch, in the background can just be seen the buildings of Seniors Farm, no longer a working farm.	The war memorial commemorates the dead of the two World Wars

The Congregational Chapel in Sackmore Lane. Construction started after 1852. As can be seen it is now a dwelling	The Wesleyan Chapel at Pilwell, built in 1899 and still open for services.

View towards St Josephs Priory and school from Great Down Lane	A view over Blackmore Vale taken from the hills to the south of Sturminster Newton looking north west. Marnhull is often referred to as the capital of the Vale.

This wonderful photograph of the school, (kindly sent in by Mollie Thompson) was taken circa 1910 and is 452kb, so may take a time to download. If you think you know who any of the children are please contact me.

This photograph of the school taken in March 2003 was taken for comparison purposes, the main differences seem to be the windows and the front wall.	An advert from the 1895 Kelly's Directory


This photograph kindly contributed by Ray Langley - can anyone recognise any other persons? "I believe this is Marnhull Football Club 1920/21(could that be the church on the sky line?). My grandfather, Ernest Langley, is far left front row, was born on the Isle of Wight but at some point moved to Marnhull, worked as a groom and chauffeur for Lieutenant Colonel William Bathhurst Dauntesey of Lovells Court (perhaps they met in the Great War, my grandfather was in the cavalry), and he married Emily Kate Haskett (aged 1 at Pope's Farm Cottages on the 1891 census). They had two children, my father Reginald and his brother Ernest, and the family moved to the Island around 1930."

	These three photographs of Marnhull residents kindly contributed by Margaret Cosgrove The trio in the first photo are Mary Ann Barnes b 1823 (my GG Grandmother) with daughter Eliza and baby Essie Kate Haskett (Eliza's daughter). Mary Ann Barnes' maiden name was Hatcher and was Mary Ann Galpin by her first husband James Galpin. She married a second time to Thomas Barnes. The other photo is Eliza Barnes b1870 with husband Percival Haskett. Left. Mary Louisa Barnes b 1863 Marhull daughter of Thomas and Mary Ann Barnes.
